Why Cape Town

Cape Town: a world-class destination for serious yacht work.

Bring the yacht to a city that combines major port infrastructure and established engineering capability with mountains, beaches, wine estates, culture and internationally recognised hospitality. The technical programme can progress while owners, guests and crew make valuable use of the time ashore.

The destination advantage

The technical period can work for the yacht and the people around it.

Cape Town offers the unusual combination of serious marine infrastructure and a city repeatedly recognised among the world's leading destinations.

For longer refit and conversion programmes, that distinction matters. Owners and guests can base themselves in the city, on the Atlantic Seaboard or in the Winelands. Captains, crew and visiting project teams have access to accommodation, dining, outdoor activity and international connections around the work schedule.

Recognised by global travel media

Independent reader surveys and editorial rankings consistently place Cape Town among the world's most desirable cities.

Drydock access through 6Sigma

Access to Cape Town's complete dry-dock network.

Through 6Sigma Marine, 6Sigma Yachts has access to Sturrock Dry Dock, Robinson Dry Dock and the Cape Town Syncrolift, supported by the port's repair quay and local marine workshops.

6Sigma's headquarters are at the entrance to Sturrock Dry Dock, with workshops and marine repair capability close to the workface. Sturrock is South Africa's largest dry dock and gives major yacht programmes access to infrastructure developed for vessels at a much larger scale.

Sturrock Dry Dock360 m

Overall docking length, with a 45.1 m entrance width and 14 m published depth.

Robinson Dry Dock161.2 m

Overall docking length, with a 20.7 m entrance width.

Cape Town Syncrolift61 m

Published vessel length capacity, with repair lanes for simultaneous work programmes.

Cape Town's dry docks and repair facilities are owned and operated by Transnet National Ports Authority. 6Sigma Yachts coordinates access through 6Sigma against the yacht's dimensions, technical scope, timing, facility availability and port approval.

Experience beyond yacht scale

Large-vessel engineering depth behind every yacht conversation.

6Sigma began as a naval architecture practice and developed into an integrated drydocking, repair, refit and conversion business. Its wider experience spans offshore and subsea vessels, jack-up rigs, research vessels, heavy-lift operations, Antarctic expeditions, bulk carriers, cruise vessels and naval-support vessels.

02

Structural and fabrication work

Engineering-led repair, steelwork, pipework and fabrication where sequence, access and quality records matter.

03

Integrated technical disciplines

Naval architecture, mechanical and electrical work, systems integration, scanning and technical documentation within one coordinated programme.

04

That leadership is supported by a multidisciplinary 6Sigma team spanning naval architecture, mechanical engineering, cost and contracts engineering, project management, SHEQ and design. 6Sigma Yachts applies this depth to yacht work with the communication, discretion and finish expectations appropriate to the sector.

While the yacht is in Cape Town

A refit period with room for remarkable days ashore.

The city gives owners, guests and crew choices that extend far beyond the harbour, from a morning on Table Mountain to an afternoon in the Winelands.

Cape Town can support a longer technical stay without making the people around the yacht feel removed from the quality of life they expect. Experiences can be planned around the project programme, access requirements and each stakeholder's time in the city.

01

Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula

Cableway access, guided hiking, Cape Point and one of the world's most dramatic coastal drives are all within the wider city.

02

Beaches and Atlantic coastline

Clifton, Camps Bay, Llandudno and the False Bay coastline offer beach time, oceanfront dining and space away from the project.

03

The Cape Winelands

Historic Constantia is within Cape Town, while Stellenbosch and Franschhoek place world-class wine estates and restaurants within easy reach.

04

Food, art and culture

Acclaimed restaurants, the V&A Waterfront, galleries, museums, design, theatre and live events give the city substance beyond its scenery.

05

Private stays and wellbeing

Luxury hotels, serviced residences, private villas, spas and wellness experiences support short visits and extended project periods.

06

Wildlife and longer itineraries

Boulders Beach, marine wildlife, private reserves, the Garden Route and safari extensions create options before, during or after the technical programme.

For owners and guests

Stay close to the decision without living inside the project.

Choose a city, oceanfront or Winelands base while maintaining access to technical leadership and agreed project reporting.

For captains and crew

Make scheduled downtime genuinely restorative.

Outdoor activity, sport, dining, culture and practical city amenities are available when the work programme permits time ashore.

For visiting project teams

Work in an internationally connected city.

Air access, accommodation choice and proximity between the harbour, city and specialist suppliers support planned technical visits.
